ARTS-7000 Questions

ARTS-XXXXX The SSID always starts with ‘ARTS-‘ followed by the Serial Number of the unit.

Yes, you can connect an ELT module via cable to the ‘Cable’ port of the NavCom module. Remember to switch the Port Selection to ‘Cable’ in the Config menu.

When you are ready to start an ELT test, be sure to press Start Test on the ARTS-7000 app first. After the test has started, trigger the aircraft ELT with either the TEST mode or the ON mode. TEST mode is recommended to avoid any possible false alert to the authorities.

The typical loss is 0.6 to 0.9 dB, but it can go as high as 1.5 dB depending on the installation setup and coupler paramaters.
You can configure the coupler loss in the Config menu on any pulse function that can use a coupler (e.g. ATC, DME, Altitude Monitoring).

Yes, you can connect an aircraft transponder to the ‘Cable’ port of the ARTS-7000. But only if the transponder does not exceed 1kW of peak output power and 100W of sustained output power.

The 10 dB coupler is a layer of extra protection to prevent too much power from being transmitted to the ARTS-7000. If you know that your aircraft transponder will not transmit 1kW peak power and 100W sustained power, then the coupler can be used on the ‘Cable’ port without an external attenuator. Never connect the Coupler to the ‘Antenna’ port of the ARTS-7000.

Typically, a coupler is not required and the transponder check can be performed over the air using the Pulse Antenna. However, your local authority may require that no signals are radiated, which would necessitate the use of a coupler.

Yes, the ARTS-7000 can perform transponder diversity checks. Diversity test can be enabled in the Config menu of the ATC tests (e.g. Mode S).

ERP – or effective radiated power – is a measurement of the aircraft transponder radio transmitter. It can be influenced by reflections, loses, distance, and interferences. Please check the values set for cable loss , the antenna gain and distance settings (if Pulse Antenna is used). If all settings are correct, a lower power measurement could indicate a bad aircraft transponder, aircraft antenna, or installation.

First check that the Pulse board of the ARTS-7000 unit shows the INTR (Interrogation) LED as amber. This means interrogations are sent from the ARTS-7000. Next, verify that the pulse antenna and cable are connected to the ‘Antenna’ port and pointed to the aircraft transponder antenna. Verify that they aircraft transponder is ON and ready to be interrogated. In some cases, the Weight on Wheels (WOW) needs to be enabled. When working correctly, you will see the RPLY (Reply) LED on the ARTS-7000 flashing white.

You will need a Straight-thru Male-to-Male serial cable with DB9 connectors.

Yes, it can communicate for some versions. But the functionality is not always guaranteed and will need to be verified. The ARTS-7000 is compatible with all new generation pitot static units.

No, the Air Data integration feature will work for all new generation pitot static units without requiring a firmware update.

No, currently the GPS Simulator only support GPS L1 protocols.

Yes, currently the records are stored in the ARTS-7000 app. Deleting the app will erase the saved records. However, all records can be exported from the app in the Reports page.

No, the firmware already supports TCAS & UAT. If you have purchased the TCAS and/or UAT license, you simply need to activate it. This guide can assist you: ARTS-7000-TCAS-UAT-Activation-Procedure.pdf (laversab.com)

Typically there is a minor app update every one to two months. We are continuously improving the performance and user experience of the ARTS-7000 product.

Please check the Local network privacy settings of the iPad (Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Local Network) and enable the ARTS-7000 app.

Please close the ARTS-7000 application from iPad memory. Wait 30 seconds before reopening the application and retry the connection. If the issue persists, please contact Laversab Support.

In any test, you can record the test and share the test information with Laversab. You need to press the GEAR icon on the top right corner of the test page to enable diagnostics. From there you can send a diagnostic report to Laversab Support.

Pitot-Static Questions

If you need to reach a relatively high altitude – like 50,000 ft – it I important to ensure there is not too large of a differential pressure between Ps1 & Ps2. You can do this by: (1) Closing the cap on the Ps2 port, (2) Changing the Ps2 units to ‘Dfin’, (3) Setting the Ps2 target value to 0.0.

Please refer to the procedure for loading profiles. You will need to use the Profile template from Laversab and some hardware to upload the template from a PC.

The Wi-Fi network name (SSID) is LAV-XXXXX.
It always starts with ‘LAV-” followed by the Serial Number of the unit.
The password is ‘lavus505’

This password is not available. Only authorized Laversab Service Centers can perform the calibration on these units.

High humidity can cause false readings of the pitot static system. It is essential to remove moisture from the
system.
You can use the following procedure to remove moisture. Perform this procedure in a Air Conditioned or climate
controlled enironment with dry air:

  1. Turn on the unit and leave the blue CAPS opened to ambient.
  2. Select Function 7 to set ground.
  3. Close all the CAPS including the vent valves.
  4. Select Function 8 to go to ground.
  5. Wait for the unit to come out of EQZN.
  6. Set Pitot Target (Knots) to 0.
  7. Set Static Target (Feet) to 50,000 ft.
  8. Press GO.
  9. After the unit reaches 50,000 ft, Set Pitot and Static to measure mode
  10. Once both channels are in measure mode, slowly open both valves to ambient. As the pressures equalize, the
    ambient
dry air in the room will enter the system.
  11. After the unit reaches ambient pressure, return to Step 3 and repeat process 3 more times.

Finding leaks is best done by isolating the location of the leak. It is best to start by separating the hoses from the pitot static unit. Close all the ports and vents, and then run a leak check on the pitot static system.

The first step is to re-enter the limits on the pitot static units to make sure that they were not changed. If the limits continue to get erased, please contact Laversab Support.

If the remote cable has a loose connection, the unit may not start up even if there is power. You can often determine this if the ‘Ready’ LED is blinking. Please check the remote cable connection. When the connection is good, the ‘Ready’ LED is solid.
